I figure it's time to dust off this old blog here.
The reason why is pretty simple: I want to get into the habit of recording the mundane events of my life again, and I tend to do that better when I imagine I have an audience. The fact of the matter is that I never really had an audience, at least I don't think. Blogger lets you see your page views statistics, and since I started this blog I've seen a shade over 11,000 views. Now, the bulk of those occurred in the first year, when this Sim living in Korea thing was still a bit of a novelty. Then there was another spike in page views when I almost died, which was my blog's equivalent of teasing a major character being killed off for a spike in ratings.
But, for the past few years I think it was basically just a handful of people who hadn't forgotten about me and who would intermittently check in on me. But now, after nigh a year-long chasm betwixt posts, can I reasonably expect anyone to read these words? Especially since I don't intend to tell anyone that I have resumed writing new posts? No, but I remain undaunted.
As I mentioned already, it's a good habit, writing, recording these events as they happen. Funny things happen, interesting things. Countless times over the past almost-year there have been things that happened that made me wish I still maintained this blog so that I could've written about them. Unfortunately only one comes to mind, the most recent one, which was: on April 1st, April Fools' Day, a student abruptly in the middle of class said, "Teacher. You're ugly." I stared, confused, and replied, "Why would you say that?" "It's April Joke Day," he answered, and class continued.
Another reason to keep up with this is that who knows the benefits of it? Did Samuel Pepys know how important his diary would become when he kept it? Certainly not. Now, just as certain is the fact that the number of primary sources that future generations will have at their disposal will be orders of magnitude larger than what we have from Pepys day, but who's to say what they'll find interesting? To make a long story short, who knows who will find this shit interesting?
