It'd be nice if I could put together an essay of some sort about my experience in Korea, seeing as how it's now over. It could detail all the things I've learned, how it's changed my perspective, altered my expectations...you know, that kind of shit. But the fact is, I don't know yet what those changes and alterations are, or even if they will occur. I'm willing to bet, however, that I figure them out within a week of being home.
On another note...
Saying goodbye to my students was pretty rough. I teared up a couple of times, once when saying goodbye to my youngest students, and again when saying goodbye to my favorite student. What amazed me was that when the little kids noticed the tears in my eyes they didn't deride me for it. Rather, they seemed affected by it, realizing that they'd never see me again, and understanding that that fact upset me.
I got about 40 notes from kids of all ages, saying goodbye and wishing me luck, written in the kind of broken English I've grown accustomed to. I put them in a shoe-box along with every other gift a student has given me this year. So that's nice.
I also took a decent amount of pictures, but I can't post them right now. Maybe I'll put them on flickr when I get back to the States. Or you could just ask me to show them to you the next time you see me.
Well, that's about it. Thanks for reading.
