There was a solar eclipse today, visible to those of us in Asia. When I woke up this morning it was in full swing, however there were cloudy skies and I couldn't see it right away. In time, the cloud cover gave way enough to produce the optimal conditions to view a solar eclipse: the bright disk in the sky was powerful enough to poke through the clouds, but not powerful enough to blind somebody who happened to be staring directly at it.
Apparently it was the longest solar eclipse that the 21st century will see, not to be surpassed until 2132. I was glad I got to see it; viewing it made me feel a connection with ancient man, who perhaps saw a similar sight thousands of years ago and then sacrificed a yak or something because of it. I wasn't compelled to do the same, but I did go back inside afterward and Raid the hell out of some ants that have been terrorizing my kitchen. So you tell me: how much progress has mankind really made?
you take this photo? it's very "yin and yang" - awesome.
ReplyDeleteYeah I took it from the roof of my apartment. I got a few others that'll go up on flickr.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of swirling going on in the sun and clouds- good eye.
