payday

I finally got to see the tangible fruits of my labors the other day: I got paid. For the first few months deductions are a bit high because they take out a chunk for my housing deposit (I'll get that money back after completing my contract), but nonetheless I am officially the newest millionaire in won. Even though right now 1,000KRW translates to about 3 American quarters, it feels good to go to the bank, check out my current balance, and see 7 digits on the left side of the decimal point. I kinda want to be overtly bombastic to everyone I encounter. "Yeah, okay, the guy in the 10,000 won jacket is holding the elevator for the guy who doesn't make that in 3 months. Come on!"

So now the trick becomes not blowing all of my money. It shouldn't be too hard, my only expenses being utilities, food, and...I dunno, anything I might want to buy just for the hell of it. I'm figuring out how to eat cheaply, even though it might mean that after this year I'll never want to eat pasta, eggs, or tuna fish sandwiches ever again. Also, since at work they want me to be really "high energy" with the kids I've begun drinking a couple of those coffee-on-the-go doubleshot caffeine drinks everyday. They work like gangbusters, so I'll be shelling out a thousand won or so a day on those things for the next year.

So those are expenses. With me hoping to scale back on my consumption of beer and cigarettes, and with beer and cigarettes being cheap as it is, I should manage to save enough money to make this whole thing worthwhile.

Spider-Man is on TV right now. I forgot how hard this movie blows.
