housekeeping

It was a boring, rain-soaked weekend in Daejeon, so, as you can see, I spent part of it fiddling with blogger.com's layout and font options. I seem to have unconsciously (subconsciously?) duplicated friend Pete V's background color. Oh well, the black background and white lettering just got old; now my blog looks like the lobby of a fancy hotel in St. Lucia, or something.

The "warning" to the left is a quote from Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. It fits the mold of a blog named after another Hesse novel with a blog description from said novel. It also fits the way I feel about this blog, though could never express as eloquently: the things I write in here never seem very important after I read them again. Reading or writing about something can never betray what it's like to live it. It's strange, but verisimilitude seems easier to obtain through fiction, where the reader's interpretation and imagination play a more important role. Here, the words are just a bunch of shit that happened to some guy.

I'm going to make an effort to produce more posts. Whether or not I will, and what about, I'm not entirely sure, but- and this is not to discount my appreciation for anybody who reads this on a regular basis- I think I owe it to myself to document my thoughts and experiences here well. If for nothing else, so that I can look back on this when all's said and done and maybe pull some education or inspiration from it. So, that's what I'll aim for. After all, Bokonon tells us:

Tiger got to hunt,
Bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?"
Tiger got to sleep,
Bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.

I can't believe it took me almost 6 months to quote Bokonon in here.
