Heard about some big news today. News that my country has been waiting a while to hear. News that has been a long time coming, but perhaps feels that much sweeter because of how unexpected it is. The long national nightmare is over. Yes, it seems I might be coming home a month early.
My school is making some major changes to the way that it does things. These changes will take effect starting in June. Big changes tend to frighten Korean parents. My school is well aware of this. They are also aware that my departure is also a big change. So, rather than have two consecutive big changes, they want to combine the two into one really big change. They asked me if I wanted to go home a month early. I told them that if they found a new teacher, it'd be okay with me. Nothing is definite yet, but it's possible that in four weeks I'll be heading home.
Of course, there was other big news today. I heard about it perhaps the same way you did. I was watching the Phillies game this morning and heard the USA chants.
Later I went to work.
"Did you hear the big news?" I asked my manager.
"What?!" she said.
"Osama bin Laden is dead."
"Oh, yeah," was her reply, "he's not my father so I don't care."
"Fair enough," I said and headed to the teachers' room.
nice post, i laughed. congrats(?) on early release, and your manager's response is classic. did you intentionally post at 9:11?
ReplyDeleteI got a new theory. Just came to me. U killed bin laden. Seems too coinkydinky(is that how u spell that?) that you leave last year around when they say they found out where he was and now that he's dead you get to come home early. I remember seeing a flicker of purpose in your eye the day we marathoned 24 season 1 and I had a feeling there might be a real counter-terrorism special agent sitting just feet away from me. This whole low platelets steroids made me fat shit was a ruse. U were undercover. Job well done sir. We in America salute you. Go finish your debriefing. Well see you when you get back. Oh and thank you.
ReplyDeletei'll pass your gratitude on to the rest of seal team 6
