notebooks

School supplies are big business in Korea. It's understandable, because school is big business as well. Each student comes to class armed with supplies. They each have their pencil cases and pencils, pens and erasers, and whatever else you can think of.

They also have their notebooks. Whoever it is that manufactures these notebooks has done a smart thing, and created notebooks which are specifically for English. The way they do this is by taking an ordinary notebook and writing "English Notebook" on it. Quite clever.

The cover of these notebooks are typically adorned with bright pictures of smiling white people, or pictures of English or American cities, anything related to English. They also will often have phrases or paragraphs written in bright bubbly letters on them. These phrases or paragraphs are often peculiar, usually grammatically incorrect, and occasionally funny. But they are written in English letters, and that's all that matters.

Today I jotted down some of the better ones I came across. You see how much care and preparation goes into these posts I write? I hope you appreciate it. Anyway, on with the show:

Do you think that the world is full of suffering? But it's full also of the overcoming of it! Let's laugh and have fun like the happy children.

Why don't you enjoy the moment, now? The time for trying for bright future! You are my sweet song and you are a honey melody, the girl who has many pink dreams. I have dreams and hopes.

The flight will leave as scheduled at 10:00. The weather is favorable for the flight. Take care and have a nice flight!

Will I do all my best to protect you when the tears get near your eyes. Will I be the one that's by your side

Even if loved horse can stop, love can not stop.

Hey, learning English is always hard. But do not give up, folks! Keep working, then your jumbled English will be cool someday! Are you ready to enjoy?

A woman means by unselfishness chiefly taking trouble for others; a man means not to others. Thus each sex regards the other as basically selfish.

At last our efforts have come to fruition. If you love me.

Close your eyes and dream of pretty things. I am so cute baby. Love is as sweet as honey. Lovely boys.

Those are some of the better ones. I realize that a post which mocks the incorrect usage of English is begging to have someone say to me, "Yeah, well let's see you do better in Korean, punk!" Well, I can't, but just let me laugh at the little idiosyncrasies I come across. Okay, person I just invented in my head? So back off!
