One of the things about living abroad is that you lose touch very quickly with things back home. An example of this would be that despite my previous post occurring on Thanksgiving, I failed to even mention it. Happy Thanksgiving!
It's not that I didn't know it was Thanksgiving, it's just that I haven't had a proper Thanksgiving since 2007. Two thousand fuckin' seven. That's kinda weird for me because growing up Thanksgiving was a big deal. It was always when I saw family; there's a myriad of sights, sounds, and smells that used to go along with it. But for 3 straight years it's been nothing, been foreign, been meaningless. Happy Thanksgiving!
The good news is that this year I won't be going without a traditional Thanksgiving meal. I've plugged myself into the proper social pipeline (read: bar), and tomorrow afternoon there's going to be a good old Thanksgiving meal going on. The only catch is that I need to bring a dish of my own. I'm going to be bringing mashed potatoes. I've never really cooked for a bunch of people before, but I have mashed a few potatoes in my day. So, sometime tomorrow I'm going to wake up, mash up some spuds, go to a bar, eat a bunch of turkey and stuff, watch some football and get drunk off my ass. Happy Thanksgiving!
