I've experienced a decent range of Korean foods, but for now I'll highlight my go-to dish. It's called dolsot bipbimbap.
It's a rice dish (if you can believe it), with egg and a bunch of vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, bean sprouts, lettuce, and dried seaweed. When you order it, as with any meal, you are brought a tray with a collection of side-dishes. One of the dishes, without fail, is kimchi. Kimchi is the food Korea is famous for; it's spicy cabbage which Koreans eat with every meal- morning, noon, and night. I've even heard that when the first Korean went to space they made sure he had some with him, and that when Koreans take photographs they say "kimchi!" like how English speakers say "cheese!" I didn't really like it at first, but now I find myself gobbling up all that is put in front of me.
Dolsot bipbimbap also comes with a seaweed soup which tastes like seawater would if you heated it up. I know that doesn't sound appetizing, but it actually is quite delicious.
So, that's dolsot bipbimbap and some side dishes that come with it. It only costs 4,000 won, so I find myself ordering it at least twice a week.
People wonder why Americans are so overweight. We'd rather eat a big burger than something like that. I wish stuff like that was more accessible here.
ReplyDeleteAs a side question: Do you see many overweight Koreans?
Nope, there are very few fatties.
